Car Buying Tips

There are several very important things you should keep in mind when buying a car:

From a Dealer:

  • Don't let car sales people pressure you into making a decision on the spot. An automobile is an expensive purchase. It's ok to go home and think about it. Most dealers will let you give a refundable deposit to hold used cars.
  • If buying a used car from a dealer, you can ask to have the car inspected by an outside mechanic. You need to do this if your car does not come with a warranty.
  • Negotiate the price of the vehicle, not the monthly rate. What good is it to get a low monthly payment that lasts too long and has you paying thousands of extra dollars in the end?

From an Individual

  • Make sure that the person selling you the car is the owner. Ask to see the title of the car.
  • Get the car inspected yourself. Once you buy the car any problems are your responsibility, not theirs.
  • When purchasing the car, the title gets transferred to you. Make sure the owner signs the title to put it in your name.
